The Statue of Liberty
Tubby Tabby saw the Statue of Liberty in the distance. He wondered out loud, "Can we go there today?" Bandit said they would go another day. Back at the ferry terminal, Tubby noticed folks who use the benches as beds and temporary shelter from the streets. Bandit saw the look on Tubbys face. "These people are homeless," Bandit explained. "Like all big cities, New York has lots of homeless people." This made Tubby Tabby feel very sad. He must remember to tell Granny Creamsicle about this. He was sure she could fix it. Bandit changed the subject. "The Statue of Liberty symbolizes a free and just world for all people," he said. "Her 100th anniversary was in 1986 and New York went wild with celebration." Tubby learned the Statue is 152 feet high and sits on a pedestal that is 150 feet tall. There are 344 steps to Libertys Crown. Tubby said, "I want to climb to the crown." Kitty Witty would not be out done. She jumped around and shouted, "Me, too! Me, too!" Nanny Snickers just shook her head. Will Kitty Witty and Tubby Tabby climb to the Crown? Its a Fact: The Empire State Building, a landmark known throughout the world, was completed in 1931. The World Trade Center was constructed in the early 1970s. |
